Wihuri and Statkraft sign a long-term power purchase agreement
Wihuri has entered into a renewable electricity procurement agreement (PPA) with renewable energy producer Statkraft. The agreement ensures that the Finnish conglomerate Wihuri will purchase renewable energy from Finnish sources for its operations for a period of ten years.
Renewable energy producer Statkraft will supply a total of 438 GWh of renewable energy to Wihuri over the course of ten years, starting from January 2027. The energy is certified using guarantees of origin from Finnish renewable energy sources.
Wihuri has set business-specific sustainability targets, one of which is increasing the use of renewable energy. Ensuring the availability of renewable energy in Finland supports the achievement of these targets across all four of Wihuri’s business sectors.
“We are extremely pleased to have secured the use of renewable energy in our domestic operations through this agreement, including Wipak’s packaging plant in Nastola, which is Wihuri’s largest production facility in all of Europe,” says Risto Aarnio-Wihuri, CEO of Wihuri Group.
“We are proud to be the long-term renewable energy supplier of choice for Wihuri. Through this PPA, we are providing our customer with greater predictability through a fixed, competitive energy price. By sourcing renewable energy, Wihuri can make steps towards meeting their sustainability goals,” says Hallvard Granheim, EVP, Markets at Statkraft.
Windly, a domestic company, acted as Wihuri’s commercial advisor in the contract negotiations.
